In my work as a freelance data anonymization and de-identification expert, I was searching for all-in-one Data Anonymization Software Solutions to support me and the organization I worked for in my daily tasks. During my search, after attending many demos and gathering all that detailed information on the several solutions out there, I realized that sharing these findings could be helpful to others.
Effectively removing personally identifiable information (PII) is a complex task for many organizations. While I’ve developed well-working custom Python scripts to tackle de-identification challenges, they sometimes proved to be too manual and time-consuming. In my search for more automation, I discovered that there are numerous high-quality open-source and commercial solutions available, but comparing them to find the best fit is another challenge.
This shortlist aims to help you make an informed decision about the most suitable tool for your organization and datasets. It features 30 possible data anonymization software solutions—15 open-source and 15 commercial—currently available for PII removal. The list provides high-level insights into the types of data each solution handles, along with a one-page summary for each paid option, including details from the product demos, and a list of pros and cons for each.
